A Delicious Eiffel Tower: France Unit Study

Our stay-at-home orders are one of the strictest in the nation. However, our family loves to travel and are missing that so much! As a result, we are traveling the world with books in our homeschool! Recently, we toured France with The Masterpiece Studio's France unit study. Week one alone was chock full of activities, recipes, and book suggestions.France Unit Study

I like to get a mix of picture books with well told stories and facts.

Here are some of the books we pulled from the library, as recommended from the France unit study:

A Walk in Paris by Salvatore RubbinoMadeline and the Old House in Paris by John Bemelmans MarcianoKatie and the Bathers by James MayhewEloise in Paris by Kay ThompsonWhere is the Eiffel Tower? by Dina AnastasioGeorges Seurat by Mike VeneziaFrance Unit StudyMy oldest daughter always likes to find an artist from the country we are studying. The Build Your Masterpiece Adventure recommended Georges Seurat and his method of pointillism. She used the template from the learning pack and created her own Eiffel Tower using Seurat's style. The book Georges Seurat by Pierre Courthion has some additional examples of his work.France Unit StudyAnytime we can get little hands involved, the more connected they are to the learning. One of the hands on crafts included is the Eiffel Tower made with wire and air drying clay. Surprisingly, this was easier than it looks. I thought the wire would be too stiff for my kids to shape, but it turned out to be really doable. The air dry clay was messy, so I would recommend having some wipes nearby.France Unit StudyThe unit includes irresistible recipes like this Rice Krispies Eiffel Tower and Parisian Hot Chocolate. My kids could hardly wait to sample both of these!I was a little afraid to attempt to shape the Rice Krispies at first. However, once I got started, I found it was really easy to work with it while still warm.

I realize that when we pair food with any study, it usually becomes one of our most memorable!
