Educational Videos for Chapter 1:

Art Appreciation in this chapter is of Loch Duich and the Five Sisters by Joseph Farquharson, Sottish Artist, 1905, Realism, landscape painting. This painting reminded me of what the Friendly Valley in this chapter may look like. The Five Sisters is a mountain range in the Highlands, with a lock at it’s base.

Use this masterpiece as inspiration to draw a picture of the Friendly Valley. Watch this video below to learn more about this mountain range:

How to make clay sculptures for kids:

Supplies:

  • Air dry clay

  • clay tools

How to needle felt a doll, fairy, or angel:

I found a selection of tutorials for you, I hope they are helpful in teaching you this technique. Because needle felting does require very sharp needles, I recommend doing this project with your older children, or you could do this for them, as they learn by watching you. Mother Culture is important, so you can find some fun with this project if you are interested. As always, I recommend allowing your child to create what they want to make, you can teach them proper techniques, but allowing them the freedom to create it as they wish is always best. Use these tutorials I found as inspiration for your little artists!

Supplies:

  • Wool Roving

  • Needle Felting Tools; needles, foam block, finger protectors, or tongs

  • Pipe cleaners

You may like to add in some felted mushrooms too:
