Additional Learning Resources for The Build Your Masterpiece Class | Adventures in Ireland: Adventure 3: Making Irish Scones
Did you know that scones got their start as Scottish quick bread? Originally made with oats and baked on the griddle, they were farily different than today's version. Scones became popular and essential in the ritual of taking tea in England in the 1700-1800's and were included with tea and sweet breads served at 4pm. They are still served daily with clotted cream in Britain. In Ireland, they enjoy them with jam and whipped cream.
Let's use our homemade butter today to make our own scones! and read the book, “The Irish Cinder Lad” by Shirley Climo.
