The Wind in the Willows Art & Baking Unit Study is here!
Come on a read, paint, cook journey with the Build Your Masterpiece Class and the classic novel, The Wind in the Willows, by Scottish Novelist, Kenneth Grahame. The landscapes and cultural references are deeply embedded in Edwardian England. This story, set in England in the 1800's, is about four animals, Mole, Rat, Toad, and Badger, who all have emotions, traits, intentions and personalities like that of humans. This is called Anthropomorphism. It has inspired many authors since it was first published in 1908, and has a lot of wonderful lessons for us to learn.
Whats Included:

Our 12 week Summertime Reading Program is here!
Enjoy our 12 week lesson plans, with books, activity ideas, additional connections, plus 3 versions of our summer-themed journal pages with quotes and coloring for kids 3 to 10+ to practice reading, creative writing, crafts, handwriting and tracing practice over the summer months. Pair up with our England and Sweden Adventures with the Build Your Masterpiece Class for more art, history and cultural connections.
I was inspired to create this pack from my mom, who, while homeschooling me, encouraged me to start a journal when I was young. We would fill those journals with happy, inspiring quotes. It has stuck with me over the years, and I think that summertime is a really exciting time for kids and parents alike. It may also be a time where some of the traditional lessons may go to the side, but nature study, reading, coloring and handwriting practice could be a daily, fun moment to continue the learning and provide more ways to connect to the season at hand. Check out my stories highlight reel to see a deeper look inside this new release.
What's Included:
3 versions of this "Summertime Journal”: Manuscript Tracing Font, Child-friendly font with lines for copy-work, Pre-cursive font with lines for copy-work. You can print these three versions out for your students who are ready for each style of writing.
12 Week Summer Reading Program Book List & Guide: For each page in this journal, I have paired one children’s book for you to enjoy with the coloring, writing and quote along with additional connection activity with writing, handicrafts, and activities, plus additional connection with our England and Sweden Adventures and their nature-inspired lessons.
Scan the QR code included on the book list page and each journal page to access the book links, and read aloud links plus the additional activity guides while using the journal wherever you may be! All you need is access to Wifi and a QR Code Scanner on your phone or tablet.
Note: Pair this journal up with your own notebook or sketch book for your students additional drawings, nature finds, poetry, and more.
This journal is a great starting off point for children in grades K to grade 5+ who are enjoying the topics of summer and wish to work on their reading, writing, and coloring skills. Great for families who homeschool year-round too!
Please tag us on Instagram @build_your_masterpiece_class to be featured! I cannot wait to see your summertime journal coloring page masterpieces!
