Emily Dickenson was born December 10th, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. While she was a poet and would often include poems in her letters to friends. The first of her works was published a few years after her passing, in 1890.

Book Stack Book End Craft - Go to your local used book store, and search for some old books. Take them home, and hot glue them together, in a stack design of your choice. Place them on your book shelf, as a book end. You can decorate them more if you'd like, perhaps with a foam apple on top.

Marchette Chute was an American writer. As a biographer, she specialized in English literary figures; she published biographies of Geoffrey Chaucer, Ben Jonson, and William Shakespeare. As a children's writer, she specialized in tales written during the periods described in her biographies, and in rhyming verses for children.
Optional: Read the book “The Wonderful Winter" by Marchette Chute to read a fun story about William Shakespeare. Pair up with our William Shakespeare Spotlight in our Adventures in England, week 1.

Hickory, dickory, dock
"Hickory Dickory Dock" is a popular English nursery rhyme first published in London 1744, with the opening line: 'Hickere, Dickere Dock'. The next recorded version in Mother Goose's Melody in 1765, and uses the name 'Dickery, Dickery Dock'.
Did you know that the rhyme is thought to have been based on the astronomical clock at Exeter Cathedral in England? The clock has a small hole in the door below the face for the resident cat to hunt mice.

Egg Shell Art - Keep your eggshells from making eggs for breakfast. Wash and dry the shells. Using acrylic paint, paint your shells, and allow to dry. Glue them to a piece of card-stock in an abstract pattern.

Humpty Dumpty is a character in an English nursery rhyme with the first know version written in 1797 and the tune from 1870 in James William Elliott's National Nursery Rhymes and Nursery Songs. Its origins are obscure, and several theories have been advanced to suggest original meanings.
