Build Your Masterpiece Class | Adventures in Italy: Adventure 6: Lesson 2: Parts of a Lemon Mixed-Media Art Project
We have learned all about Italian Gardens, and the lemons found within them. Now let's take a closer look at all the parts of a lemon, and create our own beautiful re-constructed lemon art today, with a mixed-media project!
* Optiona/additional: Use this template to also make a felt version of this to rebuild again and again, or color in and laminate, then cut out to re-build again and again!
Supplies Needed:
parts of a lemon Printable, found below
the art medium of your choice, watercolor, pencil crayons, crayons, markers, oil pastels, etc
scissors
glue
lemons, sliced or lemon juice
salt - optional
watercolor paper
watercolor paints
Steps:
Color each part of your lemon and cut out your parts of a lemon. Set aside, and create the background page for your lemon to go on. We will experiment with watercolors and lemon juice next... If your younger students would rather glue their lemon onto a blank page, that is ok too, this art project has various levels. Go with the ability and interest of your child.
On a new piece of watercolor paper, take your wet brush and wet your entire page with water. Then add in a blend of colors to create an abstract mesh of colors. Perhaps you want to use a blend of yellows, greens, and blues. Encourage your child to use the colors they like the most.
After you are happy with your art, and while it is still wet, sqeeze your lemon juice onto your watercolor, and see what happens! Experiment with this and have your child ditcate to you what they noticed happened to their paint.
To increase the experiment, add a dash or two of salt to your art work, and see what happens. Allow to dry. Hang up to display, and then place into your Masterpiece Scrapbook.
